Hi! I'm Cherry Douglas and I am a professional career coach.
I have been supporting people like you with career choice, career change and job search issues for over 20 years. I love the satisfaction of working with clients, helping them to explore and realise their career potential.
My career story
I started my working life in retail management and quickly realised that the 'helping people' dimension of the job was of more interest to me than the commercial aspects. I went to a professional career coach for advice and realised that her job was just the kind of thing I was looking for! So - with some trepidation – I took the plunge and left to retrain as a professional Careers Adviser.
Having gained my post graduate diploma in Careers Guidance, I have gone on to work with clients of all ages from school students through to graduates, adult career changers and those returning to work after a break. My career duly took the typical route into a management position which I gradually realised was not giving me the fulfilment I wanted from my work.
Eventually, (yes, it took me time to admit it!) I acknowledged that I had lost touch with what I really enjoy – working one-to-one with real people trying to sort out their careers. So once again I decided I had to make a change of career direction.
I now work on a freelance basis and as a self-employed professional career coach, supporting others who are at significant career transition points.
Along the way I have continually developed my skills with relevant training including:
Degree in Psychology
Diploma in Careers Guidance
Advanced Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching (distinction)
Licensed Firework Career Coach
Counselling Skills (CPCAB Level 3)
Solution Focused Therapy
Myers Briggs Type Indicator
I am a member of:
The British Psychological Society
The BPS Special Group in Coaching Psychology
The Institute of Career Guidance
The Association for Coaching
I love what I do now. Working as a professional career coach, I am able to see people growing in confidence as they work out how to overcome career challenges and to move on – or sideways - with their careers.
I recently recorded this short and informal interview with Nick Williams, author of The Work We Were Born To Do, and it gives you a flavour of my approach to my work.
Whether you want to undertake a major career review or simply need a bit of help with your CV, I hope I may have the opportunity to work as your professional career coach and to assist you in taking your career to the next level.
The next step is simply to make contact with me via this site. You can find out more, ask any questions you have about coaching and decide if you are ready to move forwards with your career.
