The MBTI® Personality Assessment
Find out more about what makes you tick
Taking the MBTI® Personality Assessment can be a fantastic way of learning more about yourself and helping you to think about how your personal preferences may impact on your career. As a careers professional, I am a great fan of MBTI® and I believe it is one of the most helpful personality assessments available, especially for anyone who is reviewing their career direction. I trained to use the MBTI® with the UK based Oxford Psychologists Press and I use their online services to give you access to the MBTI® Personality Assessment.
The benefits of taking the MBTI® Personality Assessment
The full assessment has been developed by qualified occupational psychologists and has been tested rigorously over many years. It means you can be sure that the questions are well designed to measure your personality preferences and you will get a much more accurate result than from some of the free online personality tests available. The results are generally pretty true to life, and most people taking the MBTI® agree with at least 3 out of 4 of the preference types that are reported. With the results of a full MBTI® Personality Assessment, you can be confident that you are using an accurate assessment of your personality as part of your overall career change planning. But remember that the results will depend partly on the way you respond to the questions. If you complete the questionnaire in a hurry without much thought, then you are less likely to get an accurate reflection of your real preferences. At the end of the day, the best judge of your true personality will always be you!
So what do you get with the MBTI® Personality Assessment?
You will be emailed a detailed questionnaire to complete. It is divided into 3 sections and has 88 questions in all. All the questions ask you to select between two options. Your responses to these 'forced choices' helps to narrow down exactly where your preferences lie. You will probably find it difficult to choose with some of these, but I suggest you always try and make your best guess. It is important to answer the questions as you instinctively respond, and try to avoid giving the answer your think you 'should' be giving, or how you would like to be. This is about getting at the real you. When you receive the questionnaire from me, you should save it onto your computer. When you have some quiet time to do the questionnaire thoughtfully, open it up and use the Select button to make your choices for each question. Save it again and then email it back to Oxford Psychologists Press using the address you will be given. You should get a reply within 30 minutes to indicate that your questionnaire has been received. OPP will generate your personalised report from your responses and they send it to me first of all and I then pass it on to you.
